How to Fix Your Hardwood Floors? Buy Rope!

If your hardwood floors are showing gaps, you have a few options for repair. You can fill the gaps in hardwood floors by using wood filler. But the problem with wood filler is that it may not accommodate the hole should your floor opening expand. Instead, buy rope to make a more permanent fix to your hardwood floor.

Buy rope that you'll be using to fill the space between the floorboards. Then stain the rope to match the color of your hardwood floors. It's an efficient method of bridging openings because the rope breathes with the rest of the floor and minimizes drafts as well.

Outdoor Work Clothing: Protect Your Hands with Work Gloves

Outdoor work clothing is ideal for getting your work done in an outdoor environment. Outdoor work clothing such as work gloves can provide essential protection for your hands while you do numerous activities.

  • Pigskin leather gloves with a warm weather lining are ideal for keeping hands warm and protected during colder months.
  • Lined-gloves are essential for protecting hands when working with power tools or handling metal.
  • Medium-weight cloth gloves are ideal for use when you're either demolishing a structure on your property or working on building a new one.
  • Latex gloves can be useful for protecting hands from chemicals during painting, working with grease, or harsh chemicals.
  • Waterproof work gloves are ideal for removing ice off of equipment or fencing.

Towing Equipment: Trailer Hitch

Choosing the right towing equipment can mean the difference between safely hauling your load or creating a dangerous situation. Part of selecting the right towing equipment means getting the right trailer hitch.

  • First, check the towing capacity of your vehicle, as this will ultimately determine how much load you can tow. Make sure you keep safety in mind by staying within the towing limits of your vehicle.
  • Next, figure out the correct trailer hitch class when deciding on a trailer hitch. For instance, a class 1 trailer hitch could pull up to 2,000 pounds. A class 5 trailer hitch would allow you to pull 5,000 pounds.
  • Then look at the type of trailer hitch. Ball hitches are common because they easily fit most cars, SUV's, and trucks. Heavy-duty hitches are appropriate for lugging loads such as horse boxes and industrial equipment.

It is sometimes necessary to use vehicle haulers similar to those used by regular towing companies on a farm. For this reason, farm vehicle haulers are available. These again can come in different sizes, depending on the vehicle being towed.

In fact, an ordinary utility trailer, if it has a sturdy enough floor, can be pressed into service as a vehicle hauler for a lawn tractor that may have run out of gas or suffered damage while being used, and was too far away to be pushed in for repairs. However, one could not expect to be able to haul a full-size bulldozer or other piece of large farm equipment on that. A larger vehicle hauler would be the type of towing equipment especially suited for such use.

Using a Door Stop to Squirrel-Proof a Bird Feeder

With summer months fast approaching, you will want to start squirrel-proofing your bird feeders. One tried and proven method you may want to consider is door stops. Door stops actually do what the name says. They stop squirrels at the door of the bird feeder. You can get a variety of door stops to limit squirrels' access to bird feed. Bear in mind that squirrels weigh more than birds, so a door stop has to be triggered to seal access as soon as something heavier than an average-sized bird sits on it. Most door stops on bird feeders work in the same way. As soon as a squirrel or heavy rodent steps on the bar, the lip goes up or down, depending on the design, and closes off access to bird seeds.

The door or barriers are generally not heavy enough to harm the squirrels so they are safe to use. It is important to know however, that some commercially made bird feeders that come with door stops can give the squirrels a little electric shock or send them flying. If all else fails, or you decide against using a door stop to protect your bird feeder from squirrels, then give them their own little feed stash that is easy to reach.
