Different Types of Adjustable Wrenches
There are three main types of adjustable wrenches and the serious do it yourselfer will probably want to keep several different sizes and different types on hand and well maintained.
The first type of adjustable wrench is known as a monkey wrench. A monkey adjustable wrench has its adjustable head set at a 90 degree angle from the wrench handle. Monkey wrenches have been made largely obsolete and have been replaced by adjustable end wrenches that can fit into smaller spaces.
Crescent wrenches can refer specifically to a wrench sold under the Crescent company brand name, but it has also fallen into popular usage to describe any adjustable wrench that has its head angled at 30 degrees. Crescent wrenches come in sizes ranging from four inches to twenty four inches and have lots of uses ranging from auto to bicycle repair.
Pipe wrenches are also adjustable wrenches. As you can probably tell by the name, pipe adjustable wrenches are used in plumbing and for getting a grip on any kind of cylindrical items. A pipe wrench is the most common wrench to be found in any handyman's tool box. They are generally very heavy duty, made of steel, and come in as many sizes as you can imagine.
When It Comes to Car Detailing, the Devil Is in the Details
You can get a beautifully cleaned and detailed car without wasting a lot of money on redundant car care products. Following a few simple guidelines and using your care car products judiciously, you can detail your car yourself and get professional results. Cars need to be cool when they are being detailed. Car care products are not meant to be applied to hot cars. Some will evaporate or melt right off if they are applied to a car that has been sitting in the hot sun all day. For that matter, cars that are hot from running should also be left to cool off before being detailed as some engine parts will be damaged if cold water touches them while they are still hot.
Cars should be cleaned from the top, where they are the cleanest, down to the bottom where they are the dirtiest. Car care products should be applied the same way so that you don't end up dripping too much product on a place that has already been cleaned since build up is as bad as grime.
Use car care products like a detailing brush and spray to remove white wax build up around trims and creases before it has a chance to harden or attract dirt.
Techniques for Sharpening Your Own Garden Tools
Gardening tools work better and last longer when they are kept from getting dulled by work. Most, if not all, gardening tools can be sharpened easily at home, saving you money and extending the life of the gardening tools you already own. There is no need to replace gardening tools each spring when you can sharpen your old ones and make them as good as new.
Pruning sheers and hedge cutters can be filed back to life with a ten inch long metal file that is available wherever you purchase your garden tools and supplies. The most important thing to keep in mind when sharpening these tools it to not try and 'improve' their cutting ability by changing the slight bevel at the edge of the shears. You should follow the factory created bevel as truly as possible to get the most cutting ability out of your shears.
Your grass clippers can be sharpened by using the same equipment and technique that you use to sharpen your scissors. Because they are used so low to the ground, it is usually advisable to make sure that no dirt covers the blades or has worked its way into the screw that holds the two blades together.
Lawn Edging 101
A truly manicured lawn doesn't just have thick green grass that has been impeccably mowed. To get a really perfect lawn, you need to pay attention to the fine details, in this case edging. Lawn edging is what sets a beautiful lawn above a simply nice lawn. Lawn edging doesn't have to cost you a lot of money and can be completed by professional landscapers. Many people are surprised to learn they can do their lawn edging themselves. At your local home supply store, you can purchase either a turf edger or a rotary lawn edger. Both will give you a crisp manicured look around flower beds, tree and lawn edges.
Most people will want to place mulch around trees and flower beds to protect their plants from possible harm while trimming and edging their lawns. Lawn edging has the added benefit of helping to keep the mulch in place throughout the year and can help keep fast growing ground covers from overtaking the yard.
The lawn edging equipment only creates a trim line around flower beds. Some people will want to take their edging even further by outlining these beds with very small stone or brick walls, or with the use of wooden or plastic lawn edging products.
